5-7-07 - Authorities say one of Greensburg's most prized civic possessions has been found -- the town's 1,000 lb meteorite was located in the local museum, next to the world's largest hand-dug well.

It was feared the outer space artifact had been blown away. Officers have cordoned off the area where it was found and are keeping watch over it.

Half iron and half stone, the Pallasite Meteorite was on display at the Celestial Museum at the Big Well. The entire building was destroyed.
The meteorite, was found on the Ellis Peck farm east of Greensburg by Mr. H. 0. Stockwell of Hutchinson, Kansas, using a device similar to a mine detector. The discovery is shown in the photo, which is courtesy of the Big Well Museum.

Know as "The Space Wanderer", it may be old beyond imagination and from far beyond our solar system.
