KS Unemployment Hits 7.7%, Wichita Nears 10%
The Wichita metro area unemployment rate hit 9.9% in July, according to the Kansas Department of Labor. The state's unemployment rate rose to 7.7%.

The Wichita metro area unemployment rate hit 9.9% in July, according to the Kansas Department of Labor. The state's unemployment rate rose to 7.7%.
The July figure for the state rose from 7.1% in June and 4.9% in July 2008.
In a report Friday, the department also said Kansas had 48,500 fewer non-farm jobs in July compared with the same month a year ago — a drop of 3.5%.
Manufacturing was hardest hit, with total jobs down more than 22,000 jobs from July 2008.
The department said almost 120,000 Kansans were actively seeking jobs last month, compared with about 74,000 in July 2008.
