Vandals Spray Graffiti At Newton Park
August 24

The City of Newton Parks Department spent hours cleaning up after what police are calling the worst case of graffiti in the town's history. Police say between 15 to 20 places were hit in Newton, including the men's bathroom at the athletic park, several cars, fences, and homes.

"I don't know why they've done it," said Lt. T. Walton with Newton Police. "We've seen a resurgence here in the last five months as it has grown in the Wichita area."

Police believe the the graffiti is gang related.

The Parks Department is using several different solvents and cleaners to try removing the vandalism. Meanwhile, the police chief is asking residents to have any graffiti on their property removed within 24 hours. If they don't, the city will remove it and charge the person who owns the property.

No one has been arrested, but police are interviewing several people.
