Kelley Bell's daughter was filling up her gas tank and watched as the fuel went in then drained straight onto the ground.

"There's cover and a tank right here, and it was spilling out like a faucet was turning on," said Bell.

When the mechanic pulled the tank out from under the car he found a drill hole.

"It's kind of big, almost of half inch," said mechanic Ed Ortiz. "So its easy to drain the gas quickly."

It's a crime that seems to rise with gas prices. Police say thieves drill holes right into your gas tank, draining the fuel and leaving you on empty.

It cost Bell almost $300 to fix the problem.
Police say it's a dangerous crime. If a spark would fly it could start a fire or even worse an explosion.
