WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita police say a pickup that was left running Friday afternoon was stolen and that the suspect was arrested after a brief pursuit and rollover accident.
Sgt. Ryan Hunt said a man called 911 around 4:40 p.m. saying that his Ford Ranger had been stolen in the 1100 block of South Emporia and that he got in another vehicle to follow the suspect.
Officers located the pickup in I-135 and attempted to stop it. A chase ensued, Hunt said. The pursuing officer reported the suspect was driving erratically and disregarded the chase.
The suspect exited at 2nd Street, rolled the pickup and bailed out. Police caught up with him and stunned him with a taser. The 31-year-old man was taken to a nearly hospital for observation and then taken to the Sedgwick County Jail.
No other injuries were reported.
Hunt said it is not a good idea to leave your vehicle unattended while it's running.
