WICHITA, Kan. — The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a number of motorcycle-involved accidents that happened over the weekend.
The first happened at about 5 p.m. Friday on K-13 just north of Riverpond Road in Pottawatomie County. Troopers say the driver of a northbound Suzuki lost control and struck a wooden post. The 32-year-old Fort Riley man was taken to a Topeka hospital.
Then on Saturday night, another accident involving a motorcycle happened on Highway 83 about 6 miles south of K-96 in Scott County. According to the KHP, the driver of a southbound motorcycle lost control and crashed into a ditch. The 32-year-old man from Holcomb was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Troopers worked five more motorcycle crashes on Sunday.
Just after 7 a.m., a 59-year-old man lost control of his Harley-Davidson on Highway 50 near Burton in Harvey County. The bike crossed in the middle of the roadway and the Hutchinson man was transported to an area hospital.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, a motorcycle on K-177 10 miles north of Cassoday in Chase County continued straight when the road curved, hitting an embankment. The 58-year-old man from Carbondale was transported to Topeka.
Around 12:15 p.m., a 48-year-old Derby woman was southbound on K-177 south of Cassoday when troopers say she failed to negotiate a curve. She crashed into a ditch and was taken to a Wichita hospital.
A motorcycle was rear-ended by an SUV at 2 p.m. on K-7 in Bonner Springs. A 58-year-old Lansing woman was transported to an area hospital.
At 8:15 last night, a northbound motorcycle on I-235 near K-96 in Wichita left the roadway and hit a guardrail. A 51-year-old Valley Center man was taken to a Wichita hospital.
