A Kansas Highway Patrol Motorist Assist vehicle was struck while working an accident Tuesday afternoon.

It happened on Interstate 70 near the Gage Blvd. exit in Topeka. The motorist assist vehicle was directing traffic around a rollover accident involving an SUV.

Our sister-station WIBW reports that detectives from the Topeka Police Department were driving near the accident when they were forced to swerve to avoid a vehicle hitting them. The detective had no choice but to collide with the motorist assist vehicle or risk hitting a state trooper.

The two detectives were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office will investigate the crash since it involved other agencies.
