On the heels of two major winter snow storms, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is preparing to sign a proclamation aimed at raising awareness of severe weather dangers.

Brownback will sign the measure during a brief ceremony Thursday in the Statehouse. It will proclaim the week of March 3 as Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state.

Kansas received two winter storms within a week, resulting in more than 2 feet of snow falling across some regions and contributing to the deaths of six residents.

The signing of the proclamation was originally scheduled for Feb. 22 but was delayed because of the first storm that hit the state two days earlier.
