An Emporia teenager hit and killed by a train, had apparently been street racing.
A sheriff's deputy said he saw two cars racing on a city street early Wednesday. The official estimated the vehicles were driving 85 mph in a 30 mph zone. When he caught up to them, both cars had crashed into a ditch.
Authorities later found 18-year-old Ernesto Ascencio's body along the tracks about a 1/2 mile away from the crash site.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Department said Ascencio got out of his car and walked away from the scene of the accident, when he was hit by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.
Officers arrested the driver of the second vehicle.
