Two people are in critical condition after being stabbed in what police believe was a fight between two gangs in southeast Wichita early Saturday morning.

The fight happened a little after 3 a.m. in the 700 block of South Broadview, which is in a neighborhood west of Lincoln and Oliver. Wichita Police Sgt. Brad Elmore said officers were sent there after the report of a fight with shots fired.

"They arrived on the scene and located a scene of a large disturbance that occurred in the street," Elmore said. "Meanwhile, two victims had been transferred by private vehicles to a local hospital."

Those victims had multiple stab wounds and were in critical condition, Elmore said.

He also said investigators believe the fight was between two rival gangs.

"We believe there was a party that was going on in the block and then a second group of individuals came to the party and confronted the people that were at the party and that's when this disturbance happened," Elmore said.

Nobody had been arrested by 5 a.m. Saturday, but detectives continued to interview several witnesses.
