WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita police say a man attempted to rob a southeast Wichita laundromat, but was only able to get away with a cup of coffee on his third attempt.

It began around 4 a.m. Sunday when a man in his 50s or 60s entered the Fabric Care Center in the 2900 block of East Harry. Sgt. John Ryan said the suspect slid an employee a note that read, "This is a robbery."

The 54-year-old employee said he had a gun under the counter, and then the suspect left.

The suspect returned 15 minutes later, saying he, too, had a gun. However, he left again empty handed.

He returned yet again 10 minutes later, poured himself a cup of coffee, grabbed the robbery note he handed the employee the first time, and left.

Police have not located the man. A detailed description was not provided.
