STAR bonds approved for Goddard project

GODDARD, Kan An Olympic-sized aquatic facility and a 150 room hotel are a step closer to reality in Goddard.

Goddard's City Administrator announced in a news release that the city's STAR bond plan has been approved by the Kansas Commerce Secretary.

The project is a multi-sport complex, including an aquatic center wth two Olympic competition pools and seating for 1,400. Also included are ball fields, a conference center and a 150 room all-suite hotel. The project is expected to create 400 full time jobs.

STAR bonds use sales tax collected in a defined area to pay for improvements in that area. The State will issue up to $25 million in STAR bonds, Goddard will contribute $1.25 million for infrastructure improvements and private investments will reach $44 million.

Phase I of the project is expected to begin this summer.
