A Wichita mother has been arrested after her baby ingested drugs.
Police said the mother called 911 while she was in the area of Broadway and Pawnee to report that her 8-month-old daughter was unresponsive. An ambulance transported the baby to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The mother told hospital officials the baby fell from a bed at the mother’s apartment in the 4600 block of S. Broadway. Doctor’s determined the baby’s injuries were not caused by a fall, but rather the child was under the influence of methamphetamine.
Officers searched to the mother’s apartment and found additional drugs and paraphernalia in the unit. Police booked the 34-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man for aggravated child endangerment and possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
The child remains hospitalized in stable condition. She will be placed in police protective custody upon release.
