Memorial Honors Fallen Officers

Friday, May 18, 2012

Families, friends and colleagues remembered officers who died in the line of duty during a memorial service Friday.

The ceremony was scheduled for Noon Friday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 455 N. Main.

Law enforcement agencies across America remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the second week of May each year.

Twenty-nine law enforcement officers in Sedgwick County have fallen in the line of duty since 1871. The first law enforcement officer in Sedgwick County to fall in the line of duty was Sheriff's Deputy Carlos B. King. The last law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty was Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Etheridge in September of 2009.
