WICHITA, Kan. -- A man is in custody after threatening to kill and off-duty cop early Saturday morning at an east Wichita restaurant.

It happened just before 3 a.m. at the IHOP in the 11800 block of East Kellogg Drive. Sgt. Ron Hunt said the off-duty Andover police officer was eating at the IHOP when staff asked him to assist with a disturbance in the front lobby.

The officer escorted a 25-year-old man to his car. The man then pulled a pocket knife, threatened to kill the officer and then locked himself in his car.

Wichita police officers soon arrived and took the man into custody. He faces a charge of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. His name was not released.
