Wichita police are investigating after a man told police he was jumped and stabbed early Saturday morning on the city's southwest side.
The incident reportedly happened around 3 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Haskell Street.
Sgt. Bart Brunscheen says the 22-year-old victim told police he left his home around 3 a.m. and walked to a nearby QuikTrip. While on his way home, three people got out of a car that had been following him and jumped him, the victim reported. He then walked home and went to sleep.
When he woke three hours later, he saw there was a lot of blood in his bed. He woke his mother, who noticed a stab wound and exposed lung tissue on the left side of his chest, Brunscheen says.
The man was taken by private vehicle to Via Christi on Harry and was then transferred to St. Francis in critical condition to undergo surgery. His current condition is unknown.
No description of the suspects or the vehicle were given. The case is being turned over to detectives.
