A Sedgwick County resident is recovering after his motorcycle collided with a deer over the weekend.

Saturday night just after dark, 51-year-old Gordon Rogers was riding his motorcyle near 119th Street West and MacArthur when he crashed into a deer.

Rogers was traveling at about 55 miles per hour when the crash occurred, and was hurt. He was taken to a Wichita hospital where he's being treated for road rash and four broken ribs.

"Thank God I was wearing a helmet," said Rogers from his hospital bed. His helmet has deep scratches in it and he says without it, he may have a serious brain injury or might even be dead.

Rogers says he doesn't judge, but he will always wear his helmet after what happened over the weekend.
