41-year-old Sarah L. Bruce was arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance following the accident Wednesday afternoon in Hutchinson.

Hutchinson, Kan. -- The wife of the Kansas Senate majority leader has been arrested following an accident in Hutchinson.

The Hutchinson Post reports that Sarah L. Bruce was involved in an accident in Hutchinson at around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and possession of a controlled substance. She was also cited for unsafe backing, following the accident.

Police say Bruce struck another car, driven by a 16-year-old in the 100 block of South Main in Hutchinson. Bruce is the wife of Republican Senate Majority Leader Terry Bruce who represents Reno County and northern Kingman County.

She was being held in the Reno County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
