A 26-year-old woman was killed after she fell out of a party bus and was run over by several vehicles.
Jamie N. Frecks, of Kansas City, KS, was one of 16 women, plus a driver, on the bus celebrating a bachelorette party when she fell out of an emergency door, KCTV reports.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deadly hit-and-run happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday as the bus was heading north on Interstate 35 near the exit to Southwest Boulevard.
Kansas Highway Patrol troopers said two of the drivers who hit Frecks left the scene of the wreck.
Jeanette Hernandez, of KCK, was a passenger in one of the three cars that stuck Frecks.
"Felt like a nightmare," Hernandez said.
She said the incident happened too fast, and they tried to avoid Frecks' body in the interstate, but she just couldn't.
Hernandez said several other cars slowed down after they realized what happened but drove away.
The thought that there were so many people who hit Frecks and didn't stop is horrifying to Hernandez.
"How anything in the world can happen like this to such a sweet innocent girl. She was just a young baby with a baby of her own," Frecks aunt, Cynthia Matteson, said.
Frecks gave birth to her daughter about six weeks ago.
Matteson said the family is devastated, and they just want somebody to come forward.
"It's hard. They need some answers," Matteson said. "They had hired someone to make sure they got there safe and returned safe. There was no return, and we'll never get her back.
No one else on the bus was injured.
"If somebody could come forward for the family. Somebody knows they ran her over. It's not fair," Matteson said.
Troopers are investigating the crash and still seeking the other two vehicles involved. If anyone has any information that might help in the investigation, they are urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
