Rosalia, Kan. -- El Dorado firefighters were called to assist Rosalia crews in battling a house fire Monday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m in the 5200 block of NE 53rd Street. El Dorado fire Chief Steven Moody says the fire started at the back of the home and worked up the wall into the roof.

The homeowner was attempting to put out the fire with a garden house when crews arrived on scene. The fire took four hours to bring under control and caused extensive damage.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family. Chief Moody says some of the family’s keepsakes were salvaged, but the majority of their valuables were either damaged or destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Two of the family's pets are unaccounted for.
