Family and friends reacted with relief to news Friday that police had arrested three people in connection to last month's fatal hit-and-run involving a man and child on horseback.
"Obviously they need to be dealt with and I'm glad somebody turned them in," said Mary Baker, a friend of the Fergueson family.
Police arrested George Donald Childers, 26, who they believe was driving the car that killed 49-year-old Lloyd "Sonny" Fergueson and seriously injured 6-year-old Eddie Caddell.
They also arrested Colleen Lakay Fisher, 19, who they say was a passenger in the car, and Elease Rowshall Childers, 28, who they've charged with felony obstruction.
"For a whole month, nobody's known what's been going on, who did this," said Princess Frazier, one of Sonny's nieces. "I think justice needs to be served. They need to pay for what they did."
Most of the friends and family who spoke to KAKE News already had a punishment in mind, especially for the driver, should he be found guilty.
"I would like them to throw away the key and let him sit in jail and every day of his life let him suffer and remember what he did," Baker said.
But amid all their anger, hurt, and frustration, they have a sense of pride in the community.
They say there is a chance someone will pay for what he or she did to Sonny and Eddie because of the courage someone else showed by speaking up and leading police in the right direction.
"I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart that they came forward so justice can be served," Baker said. "I'm proud of them. Sonny's proud of them, too."
