WICHITA, Kan. -- A man is in custody after police say he beat his elderly mother with a baseball bat and a machete.
The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 2600 block of South West Street.
According to Wichita Police, it began when an 86-year-old woman confronted her 53-year-old son about his drinking. That's when he allegedly hit her multiple times with a bat, then a machete.
She was taken to the hospital with several broken bones in her arms and hands, as well as cuts. She's currently listed in serious condition.
Police arrested the man soon after.
