At Earhart Environmental Magnet Elementary, Earth Day is being celebrated as an extravaganza.
For one day, the school is taking a break from the normal class schedule, to focus on the environment.
"It's the culmination of everything we've been doing all year with environmental education with our kids," said principal Chris Waterbury.
Items on the agenda for the day include creating recycled art, going on nature walks, and even painting with cockroaches.
The lessons are intended to teach about the environment, in a fun way the kids can relate to.
"They're putting the knowledge that we teach them in the classroom into actual practice," said second grade teacher Cathy Dilts. "We are enriching their lives with things that they don't normally do."
