A new scam is making the rounds, with text messages warning customers that their cards have been deactivated.
The Kansas Credit Union Association has been notified about the scam, affecting some in the Wichita area.
The generic text reads as follows: "THE CREDIT UNION CENTER ALERT: Your Card has been DEACTIVATED. Please call 316-765-0489."
Once that number is called, it is forwarded to a different number in the 918 area code. Once called, there's a recording that says "The mailbox is full, please try your call again later," or it asks the caller to leave a name and number.
The Kansas Credit Union Association says this message fits the pattern for text phishing, used to get credit card numbers or other financial institution customers to reveal personal information.
If you have received a similar text, the safest course of action would be to delete the message.
