Wichita Police are still trying to determine what caused a woman to drown in her own backyard pool.
Officers responded to a home near 13th and Maize, just before 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. A family member tells police they found the woman's body while cleaning the pool.
The woman, who police say is in her mid-thirties, had been reported missing several hours before, as no one had reported seeing her since early Wednesday morning. Family members say she left for a walk, and did not return.
"At this time it appears to be some type of accidental drowning in a pool that was very cloudy, apparently just being opened up for the first time this season. So you really couldn't see in the pool," said Wichita Police Sgt. Phil Smith.
"They're very friendly people, and they always wave when I go by," said Don Brittain, who lives nearby.
Police are still questioning family members about the incident.
