One resident's electronic trash might be another's recycled treasure.
At least, Sedgwick County officials seem to think so. They're hosting an e-waste collection event Jan. 24, to get residents to drop off their old TVs and computers for recycling.
County recycling coordinator Jo Oliver says there's still value in the items if others can use them, or if the electronics can be disassembled or have their parts recycled.
The free e-waste event — the first for the county — will be held at the Kansas Coliseum.
Oliver says lead and mercury in many electronics can be harmful if not disposed of properly.
She says county officials would rather the items be dropped off for recycling than dumped in the trash and ultimately landfills.
