Stock futures indicate a sharp rebound could be in store for the major indexes ahead of Monday's opening bell on Wall Street.
Dow Jones industrials futures rose 240 points, or 2.87 percent.
Standard & Poor's 500 futures jumped 1.50 percent. And the Nasdaq-100 futures added 2.48 percent.
Volume could be light with the Treasuries markets closed for the
Columbus Day holiday.
Still, investors are agonizing over whether the market is bottoming out or about to continue its precipitous decline. They face more uncertainty this week as they await action on the government's rapidly expanding effort to pull the financial system back from the brink. Investors are watching to see if the Treasury's newly announced plan to buy equity in troubled banks, not just bad assets, is enough to halt the huge losses on Wall Street and revive the lending process.
