A Texas sheriff's official says the national death toll from Hurricane Ike has hit 70 after two bodies were found near where the storm came ashore.

A search team made the discovery Saturday on an island off the devastated resort area of Bolivar Peninsula.

The bodies were taken to the Galveston County medical examiner's office. Sheriff's Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo (too-leh-MAHN'-doe) says he has no other information about the victims.

Ike forced more than a million people to flee the Texas coast before it hit Sept. 13. It caused flooding and deaths as far away as Pennsylvania.
