El Dorado fire crews are cleaning up after putting out a house fire in El Dorado early this morning.

The fire started shortly before 5 a.m. in the 500 Blk. of Village Road.

Ken Nakaten, El Dorado Fire Chief, said the house was occupied, but a family of four was able to get out safely. The family's dog died in the fire.

High winds, gusting up to 35 mph, created a problem for firefighters working to put out the blaze. Makaten said at one point, a shower of hot embers blew to the north threatening houses at one point.

"We had to keep water on those houses to make sure there weren't any additional fires," he said.

High winds were believed to be a contributing factor to the fire, Makaten said, as well as causing an electrical shortage in the back of the house.

It took more than an hour to bring the fire under control. The home is considered a total loss, suffering $100,000 in damage.
