TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) — Investigators are looking into what sparked a fatal blaze at an east Topeka mobile home this morning.

First responders were called to 3637 SE 6th avenue at the England Mobile Home Estates Wednesday just after 7:30 a.m.

When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the mobile home.

Crews located one victim during a search of the home who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Topeka Fire Marshall Michael Martin said a through investigation is underway.

A neighbor told 13 news that the victim was an older woman who has lived in the home for several years. The neighbor said that he kicked in the front door before fire crews arrived and attempted to pull her to safety but was unable to do so.

Early reports from officials said that another person was seriously injured, but now say that report was mistaken.
