WICHITA, Kan.-- From October 1st to November 2nd, 106,185 Americans have selected a plan in the new Health Insurance Marketplace. The number in Kansas is 371.
"We've had so many issues with the website," said Jessica Martinez, Liberty Benefit Consulting. "Unfortunately, even though we do have navigators, we don't have enough agents doing this where they can give you straight answers."
Martinez is a member of a group that visits the Urban League of Kansas on Thursdays. She informs people of the options and gets people signed up on the Marketplace.
"I feel a lot better about the possibilities and the opportunities presented. It starts and ends with education and awareness," said Skylar Joyner, who signed up on the Marketplace.
The Urban League is hoping those who do not have insurance get informed at free events they organize.
"There's opportunity," said Kevin Andrews, interim president. "The number being down; that means that we need to do a much better job of getting the information out there. We need to expand ourselves, which we're doing."
Consultants will be at the Urban League on Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. They are planning an event on Saturday, Dec. 7th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
