Sen. Sam Brownback sees a place in space for Kansas aircraft makers.
The Republican nominee for governor campaigned Tuesday in Wichita, where he outlined his so-called road map for Kansas aviation to industry executives.
Brownback said he envisions a future of commercial space flight in which Kansas aircraft makers would work with private space companies to design and build spaceships.
Brownback said he dreams of enticing those futuristic space companies to locate their facilities in Kansas.
But he also noted the realities confronting an industry battered by foreign competition from subsidized companies.
Brownback says he would aggressively defend the aviation industry and its coveted jobs. He wants to form an aviation advisory committee to develop a strategy for present-day challenges and future opportunities.
