Red Cross Seeks Contributions To Help Fund Response Efforts

A number of Kansas counties are assessing damages resulting from a storm system that swept through the state Tuesday evening, Feb. 28.

One Harveyville man, Richard D. Slade, died as a result of injuries sustained from an EF 2 tornado that struck the town. Three other persons, an adult and two children, were treated at Stormont-Vail for minor injuries and released overnight. Two adults were also treated and released by St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. Eight persons received treatment in Harveyville.

The storms also injured three persons in Labette County. One of these was airlifted to Wichita. One person was also injured in Wilson County.

Preliminary damage assessments in Harveyville list 28 homes as not livable with 36 sustaining moderate damage, six with minor damage and one commercial building damaged.

Damages resulting from the storms were reported in Butler, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Cowley, Crawford, Douglas, Elk, Franklin, Harvey, Jefferson, Johnson, Labette, Leavenworth, Marion, Montgomery, Pottawatomie, Reno, Republic, Sedgwick, Shawnee, Sumner, Wabaunsee and Wilson Counties.

As it continues its disaster relief efforts in Harveyville, the American Red Cross announced it is in need of monetary contributions to help fund its response efforts. Donations can be made as follows:
