It's the time of year, with campaign signs popping up in yards and political mailers flooding mailboxes.
Registered republican voters in Wichita got one ad Wednesday that depicts a candidate as a baby.
The political ad, sent out Wednesday and the front has current city Councilman Michael O’Donnell drawn as a baby; diaper, lollipop and all.
“It's almost entertaining, if it they didn't mean it to be mean spirited, I would have almost found it funny,” O'Donnell said.
His opponent Jean Schodorf told us she had nothing to do with the ad and says she's seen her fair share of personal attacks this race too.
“I didn't know anything about it, and I don't condone that. I don't condone this kind of behavior and I am disavowing anything about that post card I do not condone that either,” Sen. Jean Schodorf said.
All the political mailers about both candidates come from third parties. The "baby" ad says it's paid for by Kansans for Kansas. The one attacking Schodorf, by Kansans for Liberty.
Both candidates tell us they want to run a clean campaign, and want everyone else to do the same.
“The people in the 25th senate district, they don't want dirty campaigning. Dirty campaigning in Washington D.C. or Chicago style politics don't belong here in Wichita,” O'Donnell said.
“Don't bring Washington politics to Wichita, Kansas. Let's keep it clean,” Schodorf said.
We tried to get in touch with the treasurer for Kansans for Kansas. That's who's name is written on the bottom of the ad but our calls and emails were not returned.
Also, after our interview; Jean Schodorf's campaign sent us a press release claiming vandalism and dirty politics. It says 300 of her yards signs have been stolen and a billboard damaged and replaced with Michael O’Donnell campaign signs. O'Donnell responded that he's had countless campaign signs stolen as well.
So it looks like the calls for a clean campaign are not being heard by some.
