The Wichita Public School District will have to wait another week to find out which proposed cuts could be saved, thanks to an extra $2.6 million the district will receive.

At the June 8 board of education meeting, Superintendent John Allison informed board members the district will receive the extra funds for the 2011-2012 school year.

For the past several months, Allison has proposed more than $30 million in cuts for the 2011-2012 school year. That's approximately the shortfall amount the district is expecting to have to make up.

An extra $2.6 million is now expected to come from increased reimbursements for Medicaid and special education services.

At the June 13 meeting, Allison told board members he was not yet prepared to make a full recommendation for possible cuts that could be changed.

"I do not feel it would be appropriate to bring a partial recommendation to you. I would like to bring a complete package. My response to your questions should be this is how it's going to look, versus we're going to have to work on the logistics of that," said Allison.

Here's a reminder of the areas that saw proposed cuts.

*Phase 1 ($887,000) - proposed a change in bell times and bus schedules, eliminating some leases, and asking for one furlough day from most employees

*Phase 2 ($13 Million) - proposed to cut 72 positions, and to take into consideration less funds coming in to the district for Title One programs

*Phase 3 ($15.5 Million) - proposed cutting 186 positions, and eliminating c-team/sophomore team sports

Allison will announce full recommendations for proposal at the June 20 board of education meeting.
