The Wichita Fire Department is urging people to play it safe when it comes to fireworks this 4th of July.

Fireworks are on sale this, Wednesday through July 5th. People can legally shoot off fireworks from 6:00 a.m. until midnight during this time period.

As they do every year, the fire department and city say you need to “shoot them where you buy them.”

Wichita Fire Capt. Stuart Bevis says, “Do not go outside city limits and bring them in...illegal here.”

The fire and police departments will enforce fireworks laws. Violators could face a fine up to $2,500 and up to a year in jail.

On July 4th only, for non-emergency firework complaints, call (316) 290-1011.
