As commercial airliners are seeing fewer passengers during this recession, great travel deals are becoming more abundant.
Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport, which has been breaking passenger records in recent years, has suddenly hit a speed bump this winter with the total number of passengers dropping by 12.5% in January.
Travel consultant Jay Dill with Air Capital Travel says he’s seeing deals for people willing to be flexible with when and where they travel.
Bestfares.com CEO Tom Parsons says people can fly from Wichita to Cancun and stay five nights in a four-star beach hotel for just under $400 per person. There are also travel packages available in late June with flights from Wichita to Orlando including a five night stay in a four-star hotel for $285 per person.
Parsons says a stronger dollar is also making it more economical for Americans to fly to international destinations such as Mexico, Australia and Ireland.
"Compared to last summer, this summer we are seeing major drops on some destinations from Wichita air fares have been cut by as much as 40 to 55% to some international destinations. For the summer we think Dublin, Ireland is about 50 plus percent,” Parsons said.
For those inclined to travel, now is a great time to book a trip.
