There's a new lease on life for the castle at Exploration Place.
It's been one of the museum's most popular features, and this weekend, it's getting medieval once again.
After being closed to the public for renovation, the Kids Castle at Exploration Place will reopen Saturday. KAKE News got a sneak peak at the place where "kids rule."
"It's one of the most beloved areas of Exploration Place because families can really enjoy it together," said Exploration Place marketing director Christina Bluml.
And now, after being closed for a month and being worked on for more than a year, the new and improved Kids Castle is again a place families can enjoy.
"More than 60 all-new hands-on exhibits really focusing on science, engineering, technology and math," Bluml said. "Of course, the kids don't know they are doing those things, they are just having a good time."
It's hard not to have a good time with some of the new goodies at the castle.
"The catapult, the kids get to build a moat and a stained glass window," Bluml said. "There is also an area where the kids can pretend to shoe a horse."
There is also a fishing area, and the exhibit is loaded with new graphics and music. Keeping with the castle motif, the theme is medieval.
"The medieval theme really speaks to a lot of people," Bluml said. "They really enjoy that time period."
The exhibit should be a blast for toddler to kids up to 11 years old. But age may not be a factor as some of the improvements may appeal to adults, too.
"I love the catapult," said one mom.
Opening activities for the kids castle get going Saturday at 10 a.m.
