The City of Mulvane votes "no" on a $40 million school bond issue Tuesday night.
Thirty-four percent of the voters or 510 votes were for the bond issue and sixty-five percent or almost twice as many at 987 votes were against.
The bond issue was proposed to pay for a new school, classroom additions, a new sports stadium and storm shelters.
Voters turned down the bond issue which would have resulted in an increase in taxes that would have seen a homeowner of a $100,000 home have their taxes raised by an estimated $103.50 a year. The bond would have taken about 20 years for Mulvane residents to pay off.
