A Hutchinson teenager determined not to be stopped by Down Syndrome and speech problems has become an Eagle Scout.

Sixteen-year-old Lucas Wondra, a freshman at Hutchinson High School, received the Boy Scouts of America's highest rank this week from Troop 301 in Hutchinson.

His parents, Korey and Leann Wondra, say Lucas earned 28 merit badges on the way to his Eagle Scout. They say their son was able to fulfill the many requirements of the Eagle Scout despite needing a PDA to talk.

Leann Wondra says the troop, Lucas' teachers and many others encouraged and supported him in his Eagle Scout project. And Korey Wondra says he believes the troop also benefited by having Lucas as a troop member.
