Local prison inmates will soon have a center where they can receive spiritual training as the El Dorado Correctional Facility is completing work on a new Spiritual Life Center for prisoners.
Those working to see the center completed believe these facilities can be used to help change lives for the better.
Construction has come a long way since groundbreaking six years ago. For most projects, six years is a long time, but since this is funded through donations only, the work has taken time instead of tax dollars. Inmate volunteers have done all the work under supervision.
The auditorium will seat 300 with modern audio and visual equipment for presentations.
“When men walk in here and see stained glass windows they’re going to know they’re not in a setting of corrections. They’re in a setting of regeneration,” said Prison Ministry Director Lynn McBride.
The facility still needs about $50,000 in donations before it’s completed.
