WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that killed a 1-year-old boy and injured two women Monday evening.

Sedgwick County Jail and case records show 21-year-old Jonathan Tillery-Matthias was booked late Tuesday morning for interference with law enforcement. He also faces a contempt of court count in another case.

When asked to elaborate on the alleged connection Tillery-Matthias had to the case, a Wichita Police Department spokesperson said the case is still active and there were no other details to share at this time.

The shooting happened at around 7 p.m. Monday at Sugar Creek Apartments near Pawnee and Oliver. Wichita police said previously that a suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun into one of the apartments.

When officers responded, they found two 24-year-old women and a 1-year-old boy, identified as Taidyn Anderson, who had been shot. The women's injuries were critical but non-life-threatening. Sadly, Taidyn died. A GoFundMe has been established to help his family.

The apartment was also occupied by a 24-year-old man, a 5-year-old girl and a 10-month-old girl. They were not hurt.

Police believe the shooting was targeted.

According to court records, Tillery-Matthias is charged with aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm in a case from March 2021, but the case details are sealed. A jury trial has been scheduled for March 18, 2024.
