WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A tradition continues Sunday with Open Streets ICT- and in fact- KAKE News will be out there celebrating Cinco de Mayo at Open Streets ICT from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

A day of biking, community gathering, music, and fun in the sun is expected Sunday.

This will be the second Open Streets ICT near 21st and Broadway, in the NoMar District.

Organizers will be closing down 21st Street from Broadway all the way to Woodland Park.

“So at Woodland Park, we’ll be having a stage, with a full schedule of performances and then we’ll have businesses and nonprofits showcasing what they offer and what they bring to the Wichita community,” said Idalia Loya, director of community impact Empower.

Because the roads will be closed- people can bike, run, and dance around exploring all of what Wichita has to offer without danger.

At least half a dozen performers will be showcasing music and culture at the event.

Along the route, there will be more than 15 food trucks where Wichitans can try out.

“So plenty of options for people to enjoy some delicious food, especially celebrating Cinco De Mayo,” said Loya.

It’s a totally free event where Wichitans can come together for a common purpose- supporting and growing their community.

“And at Nomar Plaza, we have the empowerment Mercado [market] which is really a total of 19 vendors who are all Hispanic owned selling good food, products really encouraging the entrepreneurship that happens in the north end,” said Loya.

Some KAKE talent will be out there at Open Streets ICT taking different shifts from noon to 4 so get out there and meet the team.
