WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police say they're investigating a death on the city's south side after getting an anonymous tip that the person had been dead inside a home for two weeks.

Investigators attempted a welfare check in the 2100 block of South Volutsia at around 11 a.m. Wednesday, but they were unable to enter the home.

"Investigators remained on location while working to obtain a search warrant," WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford said in a release. "During that time, investigators learned that multiple propane tanks were inside the residence."

After obtaining a warrant, investigators requested assistance from the bomb squad to ensure the home was safe to enter. After the home was cleared, officers entered the home and located an unresponsive victim, who was pronounced dead.

Police have not released the person's name, and the cause of death is pending further investigation and confirmation from the medical examiner's office.

"Wichita Police Homicide investigators continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident," Ford said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact WPD's homicide unit at (316) 268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.

"We are in the preliminary stages of our investigation and are working closely with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine what occurred," Ford said. "We urge anyone with information about this case to come forward and speak with our investigators."
