WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - People and pups excitedly filed into Intrust Bank Arena for a special hockey game.

"My dog is my child. I love her so much, I love bringing her so being able to enjoy what I love to watch as well as bringing my dog is just amazing," said Courtney Alexander while holding her sweet Gizmo close to her.

At the event dogs of all sizes got to enjoy pup cups, dog cookies, and met tons of new friends.

"You can get a beer and hotdog so why not get a cookie for your dog," said Charity Overman who was at the event with Happy Tails Pet Bakery. She made treats of all flavors that people could buy as game time concessions for their pups.

Inside the arena dogs were barking along to the music, dancing with their humans, and even barking at the players. One player, Brayden Watts, even had his dog Moose in the stands cheering him on.

While it's an exciting night for all, it's also for a great cause.

"The donations from the dog tickets here tonight will help us just house the animals that we have at the humane society. Help us provide medical care, food, anything they might need while they're staying with the Kansas Humane Society waiting for their next home," said KHS communications engagement director Shanna Ireland.

She says the Wichita Thunder reached out last year wanting to do an event like this where people can bring their dogs with them to a hockey game. She was immediately on board.

"I mean people consider their dogs part of their family," she said.

People at the event said they think it's really cool to get to take their dog with them to a game and enjoy the time together doing something different than usual.

This was the last Pucks 'N Pups of the season but Ireland says she's hopeful it will return next season.
