LANSING, Kan. (KAKE) - A 58-year-old convicted murder has died in a Kansas prison. 

The state Department of Corrections said Charles Roberson was found unresponsive in his cell at the Lansing Correctional Facility on Monday. Staff and EMS were unable to revive him. 

The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy. Per protocol, the KDOC and KBI are investigating. 

Roberson was serving a life sentence for convictions of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and forgery in Wyandotte County. Prison records show Roberson committed the crimes in February 1999 and was sentenced that December.
