WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - It's the calm before the Saint Patrick's Day celebrations. Between the Delano Parade, Saturday, and a block party at Naftzger Park people are excited to celebrate this weekend. Some started getting their festivities on Friday afternoon.

“We started a little bit later than what my family did. We started at 1 o'clock I would say at Monarch,” said Colwich resident Kathleen Wappelhorst.

Wappelhorst didn't waste any time getting her Saint Patrick's Day festivities started with her family. She enjoys being decked out in green and celebrating the Irish holiday. Don't worry though, she has plans on how to get home.

“I have a designated driver that has not drunk today,” said Wappelhorst.

But if you don't have a designated driver, DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers can help get you home safely Saturday night.

“All people need to do is text safe ride home to 316-888-8888 and they'll get an Uber voucher that they can use,” said Richard James with DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers.

It's called the "Think Before You Drink" campaign. The Uber voucher can cover a $15 Uber. James says it can only be used between 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday. The goal is to prevent injuries and DUIs.

“If we can take that off the table and we can have people plan to get a safe ride home, and we can keep the roads a little safer tomorrow, that's perfect for us,” said James.

Some plan to celebrate during the day on Saturday.

“I'll probably go to the St. Paddy's Day Parade. So our good friends back there will be working it,” said Wichita resident Ben Hudson. “I'm pumped up, I'm hoping my good friend Tora is going to be there in a leprechaun suit.”

While others will get a different kind of early start.

“My plans for Saint Patrick's Day are to start out with a St. Patrick's Day 5k, and then hopefully a lovely breakfast. And then maybe round out the afternoon with some green beer,” said Wichita resident Stacee Hoye.
