THURSDAY AM UPDATE:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms have already developed across central KS as of 4 AM this Thursday morning. These will linger, grow and spread out as we continue throughout the morning. While most of these storms shouldn't be terribly strong across Kansas, we could see a few strong to severe storms across south central and southeast KS this morning. A better chance for potentially severe storms is possible again later this evening across the same area. If storms gain enough strength to become severe, 1" or larger hail and 55 mph or higher wind gusts will be the biggest concerns.

In terms of timing, the current showers and thunderstorms will continue to spread out and grow as we continue into the second half of the morning. Most of this mornings precipitation will remain in central and eastern KS. This is where we could see a few strong to severe storms, while western KS remains pretty quiet, except for the occasional flurry.

Scattered showers and storms will continue into the afternoon and evening, before ramping back up later this evening. This second round of precipitation has a much higher possibility of turning severe compared to this morning, so please remain weather aware! If we can get a little PM sunshine, this will increase the severe risk. As of this morning, it appears most of this evenings storms will remain to the east of Wichita. But this could change leading up to the evening, so check back for updates.

While a large portion of the state will be dealing with strong to severe storms, northwest KS could see some snow today! Scattered snow showers will linger around northwest KS throughout the day. Watch for slick spots as the day progresses and expect minor accumulation for most.
