WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 14-year-old has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 17-year-old on Friday night, the Wichita Police Department said Saturday afternoon.

Police say a 14-year-old male was arrested for first-degree murder stemming from the homicide investigation of 17-year-old Julio Ruiz on Friday night.

WPD says at approximately 8:47 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the vicinity of 11700 E. Waterman. A subsequent walk-in shooting report was also received at a local area hospital. Officers arrived at the hospital and located Julio, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. 

Police say the investigation revealed that the shooting occurred in the 100 block of N. Zelta, and the circumstances of what led up to the shooting are still under investigation. 

This was not a random incident and the involved parties are known to each other, WPD said.

One person has been killed after a shooting in east Wichita Friday night.

The Sedgwick County Dispatch said the call came in shortly before 9 p.m. in the 100 block of North Zelta, near Kellogg and Greenwich. When emergency services arrived, they found a 17-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but later died of their injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
