WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - It was more than just comic books at Wichita's Air Capital Comic Con held Sunday at the Sports Forum.

Founder of Wichita Comic Con Don Woodworth said he began this 11 years ago.  Woodworth said reading comic books is his passion.

Woodworth described Comic Con as a one-stop shop event and said, "You can come here and just you can dress up as your favorite character, you can be yourself, you can shop for comic books original artwork, toys prints and things like that."

Woodworth said years ago reading comics was looked down on and people who read them were considered nerds or geeky. He said it is more mainstream now so people no longer have to hide their interests.

Jim Lawson, an inker for Ninja Turtle comic books, was at Sunday's event. It was his first time in Wichita. Lawson said his relationship with the famed turtles began back in the 80's when he first met the writers.  He said they asked him immediately if he wanted to become an inker and the rest is history.

Lawson was signing and selling books Saturday and added the Ninja Turtles have a huge nationwide fan base.

Woodworth said these shows are held nationally in places like San Diego, CA and New York.  He said they usually attract around 100,000 people.  Woodworth added locally, the shows attract about 2,000 to 4,000 people.
